Every Xero barefoot boot, side by side

Xero builds boots for three quite different jobs — insulated winter, office-smart leather, and waterproof trail. They share a zero-drop sole and a foot-shaped toe box; almost nothing else. Below is the full range, and above that is the part most buyers get wrong.

The Alpine and Alpine Pull-On carry 200 g of insulation, a heat-reflective insole and a seam-sealed XeroTex membrane, at 12.8 oz in a women's 7. The Ridgeway Chelsea is full-grain leather with a 4.5 mm lugged tread and no lining at all. The Scrambler Trail Mid WP is a genuine hiking boot with ankle coverage. Three boots, three different answers — and the price gap between them is under $30.

Warmth versus waterproofing

The distinction that catches people out: lined is not waterproof. Sherpa keeps heat in; only the Alpine and Scrambler WP lines keep water out.

What every model shares

Sizing

Order half a size larger than your usual size — deliberate, not a sizing error. Barefoot boots need room at the front for toes to splay and for the foot to lengthen under load.

Two things shift the maths. Lined and insulated models take up internal volume that leather ones do not, so on the Alpine lean towards sizing up if you are between sizes or wear thick socks. And on every model the 3 mm insole comes out, which buys back depth without a full size jump. Coming from conventional boots, expect the width to feel strange before it feels good — build wearing time up over a few weeks.
